As a Doula I provide emotional and physical support by assuring and comforting the mother during her birthing process. I provide individualized care depending on the needs and wants of the mother, her partner, and the newborn. Additionally I provide evidence based birth advice such as: positions for birth, comfort measures, hands on labor support, contraction rituals, guided meditation, and coping skills.
As a Doula, I accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I have received education for the Doula’s role from the Association of Labor Assistants and Childbirth Education (ALACE) and from experience attending births. I am also a retired La Leche League Leader.
I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with the staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, positioning and other techniques for comfort. I believe birth to be an empowering, life altering experience and I will support you with all the compassion, reverence, patience and strength your birth process calls for.
I provide support to women in a variety of birthing circumstances, including those who require medications, medical interventions, and cesarean sections as well as those who choose natural childbirth. I am independent and self-employed. As your Doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or the hospital.
As your Doula I will provide help with forming your birth plan, including preferences regarding management options and the use of pain medications. I also want to know your own best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your partner foresee working together.
