Home Birth Safety

Studies indicate that Home Birth midwives provide the safest and best maternity care for healthy pregnant women, while spending on the average of 5 to 15 times more hours with clients than do obstetricians. This personal/individual time and attention helps us develop a strong connection and relationship

In the event that something shifts out of healthy normal pregnancy, I will consult with specialists and make referrals when needed. My goal is to guard the health of mother and baby and remain alert for any possible complications. When a problem is detected early, we can often reverse it with simple measures such as nutrition and/or a change of laboring position.

Statistics show that for the low-risk healthy woman and her baby, the morbidity and mortality rates are the same or lower in a planned Home Birth with a trained midwife than for equivalent populations of birthing women in the hospital.

Home Birth Midwifery

I believe that pregnancy is a normal, healthy, state of being. As a midwife, I am committed to being a guardian of the normal. My goal is to support the mother and family in a healthy pregnancy and satisfying birth experience, with the healthiest baby and strongest family unit possible; using a blend of traditional skills and modern technology when appropriate. I believe that women are strong and are designed to experience birth. I believe babies were also designed to emerge from the experience safely and unharmed. I believe pregnancy and birth to be an empowering, sacred, life altering experience and I strive to support families with all the compassion, reverence, patience, and strength your birth process calls for. I believe that a well-trained and well-equipped home birth midwifery team offers healthy women and their families a safe opportunity to give birth in an environment of confidence, relaxation, trust and security.

Central Mass Midwifery works with healthy low risk women and families in the childbearing year and beyond. I attend planned births at home. Women and families who choose to birth at home, see pregnancy, labor and birth as a normal physiological process, not as a medical condition.

Some of the Reasons women and families choose Home Birth include:

  • Individual one-on-one care
  • No separation of the baby and the mother
  • Increased relaxation in the comfort of your own home
  • Continuity of care

The Midwives Model of Care

In a healthy woman, pregnancy is normal, low risk, and a natural state of being. The Midwives Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes.
The Midwives Model of Care include Monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle. Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support and minimizing technological interventions. Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention
The application of this women-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
